I recently read this on Wikipedia:
"One of the more contentious issues is genre labeling. In reaction to both the style of music and the background of the band, many fans and musicians have taken heavy objection to the usage of the term "punk" when applied to Green Day. This is evidenced by the following comments issued by John Lydon, former front man of both the 1970s punk band the Sex Pistols and the 1980s post-punk, Public Image Ltd.:
“ So there we are fending off all that and it pisses me off that years later a wank outfit like Green Day hop in and nick all that and attach it to themselves. They didn't earn their wings to do that and if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do.[38] ” "
I'd like to know what eveyone thinks.
Personally, I think that punk is looking however you want. there's no real look that goes along with it. Sure a lot of people tend to dress the same, but does that really mean anything? most punk and emo people say they aren't into catagorizing themselves anyway.
As for catagorizing the music as punk, I think music itself today is all jumbled up anyway. Take Green Day, i would catagorize them as either punk or rock... or just maybe hardcore in general. i think we need to go back to the four main music groups anyway... get rid of all the subcatagories...
rock, country, rap, classical

Yeah, I've seen this as an issue all over the place. Personally, I don't really know. Or care for that matter. As long as the music's good, and the band is doing what they think is good, it's all good. It sort of buggs me when people feel as if they HAVE to put a label on a band. Most bands now-a-days don't even want labels. They have more than one. Because as time goes on, their music tends to change. And as that happens, their genre changes as well. So, I think it's not right to put a specific label on a band. I'm not even 100% sure what "punk" is. But whatever. I like Green Day because they're different and they could give a fuck less about what other people think.

ha ha true that!
That's what I'm saying. I mean, if we go back to even just rock and classic country, everything would be much better because there's really no disputing what the ganre is... i hate labels by the way. ha ha.
And punk to me isn't even music, it's a behavior, a feeling.

"A guy walks up to me and asks 'What's Punk?'. So I kick over a garbage can and say 'That's punk!'. So he kicks over the garbage can and says 'That's Punk?', and I say 'No that's trendy!' -- Billie Joe.
Gotta love him! ;]

Ha ha! I forgot all about that quote! It's gotta be one of my favorites along with:
"Oh, I had a dream. I dreamt, one time, that I pissed in my suite case. I woke up in the morning and I had, um, piss in my suite case." -Billie Joe

I thought I was the only person who found that funny! Every time I watch it with my friends they don't catch it, but I do everytime and it makes me laugh. lol
I remember at lunch one day I had a gum wrapper, and I just casually started rolling it while singing "roll, roll, roll a joint twist it at the ends! light it up and take a puff then pass it to your friend!" Both my friends looked at me all concerned then started bursting out with laughter. They're like "what was that??" i'm like "Tre Cool. DUH!"

Yeah when I'm sick I sleep all the time. Even when I'm not sick I take naps during the day. I'm like an old person or something. haha. I recently listened to the cd with the live performances from Bullet in a Bible the other day. Does that semi-count? lol

i listen to that in the car. lol. and, don't feel bad about naps... we do it in college (oh, that sounds bad) let me rephrase: it's the life of a college student to take frequent naps.
